Scane Custom Cabinets was recently awarded a kitchen cabinet remodel on Lake Mission Viejo in Orange County, California. The homeowners have opted for Select Alder cabinets, apple ply drawer boxes with dovetail construction and undermount self closing drawer guides. Cabinet doors made in our custom door department are to be solid raised panel with a custom finish. Rather than stainless steel the appliances will have panels stained to match the cabinets. Some kitchen doors will have glass inserts which will add a light feel to the entire kitchen. The homeowners have also been made aware of our lifetime warranty on all drawer boxes, drawer guides and door hinges. This job is expected to be completed by August, 2009.

California has tougher EPA codes than any other state in the nation. Beginning January 1, 2009 any composite wood products or finished goods containing wood products, such as cabinet and furniture intended for the California market, must meet California's clean air emission standards limiting formaldehyde emissions. Please be aware that cabinets coming in from other countries do not abide by the quality specification that US cabinet makers do. It is certain that cabinets made in foreign countries have formaldehyde in them. These cabinets have a great price point, but they are hazardous to your health.

How can something that we need so desperately cause so much damage? Even if you are not faced with the devastation that a broken water pipe can bring, care should be taken anytime you mix water and wood. While in your kitchen, take note of the following ways water can damage your cabinets. When you rinse your dishes off before loading the dishwasher do you then swing the dishes out of the sink into your dishwasher, thus scattering water on your cabinets? How about when you wash your hands at your sink. Do you then open a drawer and pull out a dry towel with wet hands, scattering water down the front of the drawer? A few drops won't look like much in the beginning, but the continued wear of water on your cabinets can create discoloration of your custom cabinet finish. So, just keep in mind those little drops of water. And if they do appear, dry them up quickly. This will help to keep your cabinets looking beautiful for many years to come.
